Almost beaten to the next light by a V6 Camry. Time to upgrade my v8 manual Mustang...

I mean, they run a sub-6 second 0-60.

My coworker has an Accord & it can move. Very surprised.

Family cars got fast in the last 5 to 10 years.

^can confirm, drive a “totally not stage 3" Focus.

They’re quick. Even the 4 cylinders ones will move a little.

Can confirm, my Solara is basically a V6 Camry, it will move. I can also confirm that running my Dunlop Direzza DZ102's a Solara is faster than an 04 mustang GT in the twisties.

supercharger time
![]() 06/17/2017 at 10:45 |
|
Mustang GT: 420hp, 390tq, 3500lbs., 4.3 second zero to sixty, 12.7 second 1/4 mile.
Camry XSE V6: 268hp, 248tq, 3500lbs., 6.1 second zero to sixty, 14.5 second 1/4 mile.
The Mustang reaches peak torque and peak horsepower lower in the powerband than the Camry.
My bet is that he was full-throttle and you weren’t?

Nah, time to upgrade the driver ;)
![]() 06/17/2017 at 10:56 |

Wait he has a modern mustang GT? Something’s fishy here. ;)
![]() 06/17/2017 at 11:05 |

Yeah, looks like he has a 2013/2014 5.0.

5.7 seconds for the camry depending on year but still shouldnt have been close to the stang.

Sounds like it was a thrill ride

True. In the real world, though, you can probably tack on a third of a second or so for both cars.

Yet in the PNW they will still merge onto an interstate at 41 mph.

How “almost beaten” are we talking here? My truck has 1.5 seconds 0-60 on the last gen V6 Escape and the 2nd gen Escalade... both surprised me. Granted I wasn’t floored immediately because I wasn’t expecting a fight, but still... both ended up with just enough space that I knew I could get in front safely. ~2 carlengths maybe.
A second in 0-60 isn’t a lot of distance... and everything is getting ridiculously quick these days.

In distance... that 0-60 gap isn’t a ton. You would rarely hit a proper 1/4 mile run on the street.

Exactly. He slammed the gas at the green light to show off.

Yeah, it was similar to your experience. I didn’t know he was going for it until he did. He didn’t win (and CERTAINLY never would have if we had both floored it), but I made this post simply to comment on how surprising a boring Camry was to me.
Opponauts may have to find a new standard-bearer for Beige/Boring.

Warranty is up in August. Who knows...

But! I bought a fast car so I wouldn’t have to upgrade myself!!! ;)

To show off his Camry? Bought the wrong car, brother.
